One of nine WA captains, including the legendary Phil Matson, to come from the Goldfields Football League, Jerry Dolan was paid the ultimate accolade when made captain of its centenary team in 1986.  Dolan joined East Fremantle in 1923 and played in the WA carnival team at Hobart in only his second year.  He was a versatile footballer who could serve as a knock ruckman or play across half-forward or half-back.  In a coaching career that spanned 17 years, he never failed to lead his team into the finals.  The pinnacle came at East Fremantle in 1945-1946, his team going through undefeated in the second year and establishing an Australian league record of 35 consecutive wins.
