A pioneer of radio commentary, his voice was recognized the length and breadth of WA. A school teacher, he called from inside the boundary line with a hand-held microphone and a ground-level view of the action. When he died in the middle of the 1960 season, an obituary in The West Australian was headed: Famous Voice Silenced.
